Second Story Window Review and Giveaway

Introduction:  Yesterday Emily from Second Story Window shared with us some fun ways to learn the alphabet. Well, today we're going to show you around the Second Story Window Etsy shop.

Second Story Window is run by not one, but two very talented second grade teachers. Emily and Heidi love kids and love developing resources to help them learn in a fun and creative way.

Selection: Second Story Window is filled with colorful printable educational games that make learning less like work and more like play. All of the printable games also come with a skill practice sheet to reinforce what the games are teaching.

Here are some of our favorite printables from Second Story Window.

Review:  Emily and Heidi emailed us their Alphabet Games Set 1 to use with our two oldest, Emahry (3 1/2) in particular.

The Alphabet Games Set 1 includes 3 games and focused on the letterA, S, P, L, T, V, M. We liked that the games all focused on the same 7 letters instead of trying to use all 26 letters at once. I've found that Emahry learns the letters and their sounds better in chunks instead of the entire alphabet at once.

Printable Alphabet Games Set 1 Three Games, Chart, and Three Skill Sheets

This game set includes the games Yikes!, Fill the Mailbox and Alphabet Fish as well as rules for each game, an alphabet chart and 3 skill sheets.

I love the bright colors and designs that make up the games from Second Story Window. I also really appreciate the graphics not being overly girly. The Yikes! game graphics in particular look like something straight out of a comic book.

From Second Story Window:

Printable Alphabet Games Set 1 Three Games, Chart, and Three Skill SheetsFill the Mailbox, an adorable board game, includes 1 game board, 21 game cards (14 picture cards and 7 action cards like go again, miss a turn, etc.) and directions for play. Also included are instructions for turning the game into a file folder game. As an extra bonus, the Fill the Mailbox game includes a special skill sheet to give your child extra practice with the letters taught in this game, including practice writing the letters.

Printable Alphabet Games Set 1 Three Games, Chart, and Three Skill Sheets
Yikes!, a fast-paced card game, includes 27 colorful game cards (23 letter cards and 4 Yikes! cards) and directions for play. Also included are instructions for turning the game into a file folder game. As an extra bonus, the game includes a special skill sheet to give your child extra practice with the letters taught in this game, including practice writing the letters.

Printable Alphabet Games Set 1 Three Games, Chart, and Three Skill Sheets
Alphabet Fish, a familiar card game, includes 24 colorful game cards and directions for play. Also included are instructions for turning the game into a file folder game. As an extra bonus, the game includes a special skill sheet to give your child extra practice with the letters taught in this game, including practice writing the letters.
We printed our games on white cardstock and laminated them for repeated use. Emahry and Jonathan both love games and since these all focus on the same letters, even Jonathan (2 1/2) has been able to join in without too much help. We've really enjoyed these games and would love to add more games from Second Story Window to our collection.

Connect: Keep up with Second Story Window through their Blog, Etsy shop and Facebook page. The Second Story Window blog is filled with lots of great ideas for helping kids learn in fun ways and also offers several free printables.

Buy It: You can purchase your own Alphabet Games Set 1 for $12.50. These files are emailed directly to you, so you don't have to worry about shipping costs. you can purchase individual games for only $5.00.

Win It: Second Story Window would like to offer our readers a chance to win your very own Alphabet Games Set 1 as well as 2 other $5 games of your choice. Open worldwide.
