List It, Link It! ~ 5 Baby Steps to a More Sustainable Lifestyle

Last week we began a new feature here at A Heart for Home. Every Thursday we'll be posting a list and asking you to join in by linking to a list of your own or by leaving your list in the comments section.

Any family friendly list can be included. Last week we posted a list of listing ideas to get you stared.

Five Baby Steps to a More Sustainable Lifestyle

1. Stop purchasing water in plastic bottles. Instead use a filter system and a reusable bottle for while you're away from home. Stick to good old glasses while at home or simply use your on the go bottle there as well.

2. Replace your paper napkins and paper towels with cloth equivalents. Come back tomorrow for a chance to win a SKOT cloth 4-pack to replace your paper towels.

3. Recycle. Don't overwhelm yourself. Find out what items are easily recycled in your area. Then simply pick one item (paper, plastic, metal, cardboard, etc.) and begin there. Once you're able to slowing add in the others you can put everything in one place and sort when you get to the recycling center or presort in your home.

4. Look for ways you can reuse items instead of throwing them away. With the holidays approaching, save boxes and newspaper instead of purchasing wrapping paper. Or buy reusable bags like this one from ChicoBags that can be used as gift wrap and then reused all year long.

5. Buy used when ever you can. Check Craigslist, Ebay, yardsales and thrift stores for great items at rock bottom prices. Not only does this help to keep items out of the landfill it is also easy on your budget.
