God Gave Us So Much Book Review

God Gave Us So Much: A Limited-Edition Three-Book TreasuryGod Gave Us So Much is a limited-edition treasury style book that includes three "Little Bear" stories, including God Gave Us the World, God Gave Us Love and God Gave Us Heaven.

All three of these stories gentle portray Christian messages in an easy to read format. The illustrations, by Laura J. Bryant, are absolutely beautiful and catch the attention of even very young children. A lot of small details leave children looking at the pictures long after the text has been read.

God Gave Us the World teaches about how people (or bears in this case) are different. Attention is given to accepting others who are different from ourselves. This story also illustrates the importance of taking care of the world, which is one of God's many gifts to us.

God Gave Us Love is a story teaching about different types of love, but focuses on the greatness of God's love for us. This story was very sweet, but the dialog may be a little tough for young children.

Finally, God Gave Us Heaven is about Little Bear's inquisition into what heaven will be like. This story delicately and a little vaguely addresses death, which can make some children uncomfortable. It is, however a good conversation starter, but may be better suited to older children.

Although I think the illustrations in this book are beautiful, I must admit that the text leaves a little to be desired. Some of Little Bear's constant questions make the dialog seem choppy and the age appropriateness of the text doesn't quite seem to line up with the age appropriateness of the topics.

However, I do like that this treasury style book gives parents the launching pad to discuss spiritual issues with young children. I also love the illustrations and our two oldest spend time slowing turning the pages of this book at least a few times each week as they study the beautiful and detailed pictures.

We were given a copy of this book free of charge from WaterBrook Multnomah's "Blogging for Books" program, in exchange for our honest review. We were not required to give a positive review.

Have you read any of the Little Bear books? Which ones? What were your thoughts?

I've read several of them, and I agree with you - the text seems really choppy - especially in "God gave us love." My favorite is "God gave us Christmas" - it flowed really well and explained Christmas in a really good way... We also have "God gave us you" which isn't as bad as the love one but not as good as the Christmas one...

I LOVE God Gave Us You! I found it when I was pregnant with Enoch, our baby that took us 6 years to get, and cried in the store as I read it! We later purchased the treasury you mentioned to go with it. I think the books are wonderful!
