Homemade Ginger Ale {Finished Friday} come link up your finished projects

Let me just tell you how much I like ginger ale…
I love the light refreshing taste…
the bubbly, slightly sweetness…
I like it a whole lot.

But, I don’t like…
artificial sweeteners…
too much sugary sweet…
ingredients I can’t pronounce…
the expense of natural ginger ale.

So…
I have my own bubbling away…
in a nice warm corner of our kitchen…
I’ve been stealing little tastes of the ginger bug (starter) for a few days…
I have my organic ginger water and my simple syrup (made from organic sucanat) already waiting in the fridge…
I can’t wait to mix it all up (hopefully tomorrow)…

I’m picturing myself sipping my homemade, healthy, probiotic-filled ginger ale while relaxing outside on a lounge chair and wearing a big straw hat.

In reality, I’ll probably steal sips in between washing dishes, folding mountains of clothes, and singing the ABCs…life is good!

I’m thinking homemade root beer might be added to my summer to-do list.
(I’ll be posting my ginger ale results next week.)

Today's Questions: Do you like soda? What’s your favorite? Have you ever tried homemade soda?
I'm trying to hold myself accountable to finish some of the projects on my to do list by posting each Friday about a project I've completed.

  5. I don't drink soda, but I do drink ginger ale when I'm not feeling well. I will have to check back to see how the experiment went!

I took a break from blogging this week, so I hope you don't mind that I linked up an older post to this week's link party. Thanks for hosting!

  6. Vanessa, I'm not a huge soda drinker either. In fact we typically only buy soda when we're sick and then it's ginger ale all the way. But, with the weather getting warmer I've been craving something different to drink that would still be healthy for me. I'm already thinking of root beer floats for this summer :) I guess the ice cream would make them unhealthy, huh?

  7. I used to drink one glass of soda one time on the weekends. But I've decided to give up sodas (actually any liquid other than water). I'm soda-free for almost 6 weeks now.

  8. Kristin, good job giving up soda! We (Tim & I) typically only drink it when we're sick or if it's offered to us at other people's homes (and then only clear sodas or root beer). I actually discovered this recipe while looking for ways to get more healthy bacteria into our systems. With Tim working at the hospital we seem to be getting sick more often, so I'm excited for another (tasty) way to get probiotics into our bodies.

  9. Oh, I haven't had a root beer float in AGES. I guess I'll have to make an exception this summer and have some root beer. :)

  10. I recently started making kombucha and water kefir soda at home (both are probiotic). The strong flavor of Komucha isn't for everyone but the water kefir seems to be loved by everyone. So far my favorite flavors are pear and raspberry.

  11. Oh and I forgot to say thanks for posting this because the only homemade ginger ale I knew of used whey so I couldn't have it. I think I may just have to try this out too. My kitchen is slowly turning into a fermenting lab.

  12. Sarah, I'd love to know more about water kefir. I've been making milk kefir for quite a while, but we don't have a very good milk source anymore.
