Painted Garden Markers {Finished Friday} come and link up your projects, too!

Link up your finished projects at the bottom of this post.

Our family has started a summer-long plant and garden nature study. We’re enjoying learning about plants together and spending lots of quality time in the garden.

This past week we combined two idea I found on Pinterest (this & this) to make rock garden markers.

First, I spray painted the rocks white. When the paint was dry, we covered the centers of the rocks with painters tape. Then the kids went to town with acrylic paints in various colors.

After the paint dried, we peeled off the tape and I touched up the white space. Then I used a black Sharpie to write the names of the plants that are in our garden (I also decorated a little with a white paint marker and painted veggies to correspond with each marker).

Once everything was dry, I sprayed all the rocks with a few coats of clear sealer to help them stand up to the elements.

What do you think? I love the extra color they add to the garden.

Today's Questions: Have you planted a garden this year? If so, what do you have growing?

  1. Looks like fun! I was wondering when you wrote about your meal planning how different it is in the summer/fall with homegrown food. I'm sure it helps the budgeting a lot!

  4. This is a wonderful idea! And what a great project to involve the kids in. We are planning to start a garden eventually, however we just moved into our new home a few weeks ago and have a lot on our plate! We will probably prepare the land this fall, let it sit for winter, then have it for next spring! I have lots of garden research to do in the meantime!
