Handmade Gift Bow Tutorial

I made some of these gift bows last spring with my sister and then completely forgot about them until last week when I started thinking about wrapping Christmas gifts. They are very simple to make and are just another small way to live frugally and green by reusing your old magazines. I've been using all of those baby magazines we when given by the hospital when Jonathan was born.

The Supplies:
1 magazine page
scissors
small hole punch (or a sharp object for poking a small hole)
1 metal brad

Step 1: Cut across the magazine page to make nine 3/4 to 1 inch strips.

Step 2: Start with one strip and make a loop at one end.

Step 3: Turn the strip and make a loop at the other end.

Step 4: Use the small hole punch (or sharp object ~ be careful!!) to make a hole through all 3 layers of paper.

Step 5: Place the brad through the hole.

Step 6: Repeat with the remaining 8 strips.

Step 7: Open the brad to hold all the strips in place.

Attach the bow using double sided tape.

I will warn you, it is very hard to make just one. I know from experience. :)

  12. This is such a cool idea! My mother gave me all her Martha Stewart Living mags. I hated to throw them out, as they have some awesome info, but only one or two items per magazine. Now I can use them for this, saving only what I want in a three ring binder.
