Jambalaya

Today we're sharing a recipe for Jambalaya that you can enjoy for under $5.00.
Jambalaya

2 Tbsp dried minced onions ($0.20)
1 Tbsp dried parsley ($0.10)
2 Tbsp beef bouillon granules ~optional: we left it out this time and didn't miss it at all
1 tsp garlic powder ($0.06)
1/2 tsp black pepper ($0.02)
1 tsp paprika ($0.06)
1 tsp dried oregano ($0.06)
1/2 tsp salt ($0.01)
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper ($0.01)
dash of ground red pepper (cayenne) ($0.01)
dash ground cumin ($0.01)
1 cup uncooked rice ($0.20)
1 bay leaf ($0.10)
16 oz. smoked sausage ($2.29)
1 can (14 1/2 oz.) diced tomatoes ($0.69)
3 cups water

In a large saucepan, bring water, sausage, tomatoes, and spices to a boil over medium heat, stirring occassionally. Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer 23-28 minutes (stirring occasionally) or until most of the liquid is absorbed and the rice is tender. Remove bay leaf to serve.

Total cost: $3.82

Five or fewer is a great idea! I'm glad you thought of it.
