This year, I've been looking for a way to help keep our family focused on Jesus during the Christmas season. I thought it would be a great idea to display some of the names of Jesus in our decorations to help remind us of how wonderful a gift he is.
As I search for inspiration, I came across this Names of Jesus Garland, Monica (from The Homespun Heart) made for her open house at The Rusty Robin.
So, I decided to make my own garland. I sat down and made a list of 13 names of Jesus and 2 verses about his birth. Then I typed them up in a pretty font, being sure to leave enough room to cut a circle around each one. I'm using my scrapbook circle cutter to cut out each circle, but you could also just trace a circle from a cup or small bowl. I still need to buy some red & green paper and get it all put together, but I thought I'd go ahead and post the idea in case anyone wanted to start their own Names of Jesus Garland.
This garland will look wonderful decorating your home and will help remind you of the amazing gift God sent--his son Jesus.
This would also make a great teacher, neighbor, or hostess gift this Christmas season.
*Edited to Add: Unfortunately in our move I can't find our garland from last year, but here is a photo of Kristin's using the PDF file I sent her last year.

I've had this idea floating around in my mind for a while now. I finally whipped one up this afternoon while the little ones were napping. The block is about 3 1/2 inches square. It is stuffed and a small bell is hidden inside which makes a very soft jingle sound.
*In response to kpmattingly's comment, all of the ribbons are reinforced (stitched twice) so they are very secure.
This Easy Grasp Baby Block is a Christmas gift for an extended family member who's first baby should be arriving any day now.

Today I am 28 years old. Tim keeps teasing me that I 'm getting close to 30. I keep reminding him that the only reason he thinks that's funny is because he's already passed that milestone--two years ago.
So, while I'm not jumping up and down because I'm another year older, I am thankful that the passing of time, if you let it, can also bring about the passing of the less than desirable traits of our character. For me some of these traits are selfishness, conceit, undisciplined living, and self-reliance.
Through the years it becomes more and more difficult to think only of myself. As so many other precious people need so much from me it becomes easier and easier to push my wants aside.
It's also difficult to take yourself and your looks too seriously when you haven't shaved your legs in three weeks, your hair is unbrushed, and your little one has decided to use your shirt as a washcloth for his "I just squeezed a banana through my fingers" hands--again.
As for being undisciplined, just try to manage a household with a full-time in school plus working husband, a 2 1/2 year old, a 15 month old, and a another baby due in 10 weeks without being disciplined and you'll soon see that planning and sticking to lists and schedules is your only way to make sure that there are clean diapers, washed dishes, and food on the table.
Probably the least desirable trait that I am very happy to be learning my way out of is my self-reliance. When you realize that you haven't slept through the night ONE SINGLE TIME in almost three years you begin to lose confidence in your own strength. You finally see that nothing good can come from your meager attempts and that the only reason anything positive is going on in your life is because of the grace and power of God.
That's one reason I'm thankful that my birthday occurs so closely with the day that we celebrate the greatest birth of all, that of a tiny baby, born in a manger, who chose to leave unspeakable glory to live as an example for us and to ultimately die as an atonement for our sins.

I can definitely vouch for the quick shipping times as I received my fabric only 3 days after Kris sent it!
Kris lists her fabrics in 1/2 yard increments to give her buyers more flexibility. This is something I love, but haven't seen much when shopping online for fabric.

This is my second time working with Jen from the Etsy shop, Down Shadow Lane. Jen is a stay-at-home mom who loves fabric and sewing. Down Shadow Lane carries a wide range of fabric including vintage, retro, reproduction, quilting, and children's prints.

Here's an example of the Scrappy Fabric Belts I've been making for Christmas gifts.
The inspiration for these belts came from Juicy Bits' tutorial, but I decided to make them 1 1/4 inches wide and to use D rings instead of buckles.
I'm using up lots of scraps from my fabric collection and some new fabrics as well. the only supplies I had to purchase are interfacing and the D rings. Each belt ends up costing less than $3, so I think it's a fairly frugal gift for the holidays, or anytime during the year.
Recently, our home has been filled with Christmas music from a newly discovered source.

Today we woke up to a world thinly blanketed in beautiful white snow. As soon as Emahry finished eating breakfast we bundled her up to go play in the snow with Daddy.
Jonathan even made it outside for a few minutes while I took some photos from the front porch.
