Joyful Girl Naturals {Review & Giveaway}

Introduction: Joyful Girl Naturals is the Etsy shop owned and operates by Shelly. Shelly has 5 children and 2 grand children. She's been making herbal remedies, aromatherapy products and natural beauty products for years.

Shelly's goal is to provide effective, natural products that everyone can afford. She infuses her own oils, and creates her own recipes.

In Shelly's products you will not find any chemicals which have been found to be a hazard to our health, parabens, sls, propylene glycol, or Triclosan.

At Joyful Girl Naturals the motto is "Health Before Wealth" which helps to explain Shelly's very reasonable prices.

Selection: Joyful Girl Naturals carries a wide selection of natural personal and home care items. Shelly's products are divided into the following categories: Face & Body Care, Cleaning Naturally, All Things Moisturizing, Exfoliation Station, New Products, Children of All Ages, Natural Remedies, Natural Man Stuff, Hair Care Products and Gifts.

Review: Shelly blessed our family with two natural deodorants from Joyful Girl Naturals. Tim reviewed the Natural Patchouli Deodorant for Moderate to Heavy Perspiration and I reviewed the Natural Lavender Deodorant for Mild Perspiration. What I first noticed when these deodorants arrived was that I could smell them without opening the package, and they smelled great. One of the ladies that works at our post office even commented about the "great smelling package."

These natural deodorants are in easy to use tubes that are shaped and function like huge lip balm tubes. They are also clearly labeled with the type of deodorant and the ingredients.

The Patchouli Deodorant was a great choice for Tim. While this scent could easily work for a woman as well I think it lends itself more to being for men. Tim has really enjoyed using the smooth solid stick deodorant and has found that as long as he is clean when he puts it on it can easily keep him smelling fresh all day long. We did have a little problem with deodorant residue becoming embedded in Tim's white undershirts, but when I contacted Shelly she told us that this is probably because Tim was applying too much deodorant and that this isn't an issue with normal application.

I am also very pleased with my Lavender Deodorant. I love the smell and it keeps me smelling good all day. However, as with all of the natural deodorants I've tried your underarms must be clean in order for the deodorant to work effectively. Since I usually don't shower every day I simply freshen up my underarms with soap and a wash cloth before applying the deodorant.

Overall, we are really pleased with our deodorants from Joyful Girl Naturals and would love to add some more to our medicine cabinet.

Buy It: You can purchase your own Natural Patchouli or Natural Lavender Deodorant from Joyful Girl Naturals for only $5.95 plus s&h.

Win It: Shelly has decided to bless one of your with the same two deodorants we reviewed

A Summer Afternoon: Wooden Toys, Games & Teethers {Review & Giveaway}

Introduction: A Summer Afternoon is the Etsy shop of Aaron and Erin, a husband and wife team who make natural wooden toys.

Aaron & Erin have been married for 3 years and have a one year old son. They love making wooden toys, games and teethers. Most of the wood they use would have otherwise been thrown out because it was oddly shaped or too small for a business to sell at full price.

A Summer Afternoon's toys are classically designed and inspire creativity and imagination!

All of their products are non-toxic and eco-friendly. A Summer Afternoon's wooden toys can be left unfinished or coated with food grade beeswax wood finish or raw linseed oil.

Selection: A Summer Afternoon carries a variety of wooden vehicles including a truck and trailer, flatbed truck, family car, train, scooter, sportster and baby's first car. They also make wooden baby teethers, coloring utensil holders and wooden blocks. Aaron and Erin also offer woodburning personalization to give their wooden creation even more of an heirloom quality.

Review: We were blessed to review the four passenger family car from A Summer Afternoon.

Emahry (3 years old) and Jonathan (2 years old) have enjoyed this car from the moment it arrived. This handmade wooden car is extremely durable and beautifully crafted. The whismical shape makes it an easy classic in my book and also allows it to be easily driven by little hands. I love that there are no sharp edges or corners.

The removable people make this toy even more fun for little ones. Emahry and Jonathan can easily spend fifteen to twenty minutes simply removing the people and placing them back into their seats.

The wheels on the family car turn easily and allow the car to glide smoothly across the floor.

Emahry has told me on two separate occassions that we should get a car like this for her friend, so it definitely gets her recommendation!

Connect: Learn more and stay up to date with A Summer Afternoon's happenings by visiting Aaron & Erin on  Etsy, their Website, Facebook, & Twitter

Buy It: You can purchase your own handmade wooden four passenger family car from A Summer Afternoon for only $16 plus s&h.

Win It: A Summer Afternoon would like to send one of our readers their very own "Baby's First Car" vehicle. This handmade wooden car would be a great addition to any child's toy collection. This giveaway is open to the US and Canada.

HeidiOh Diapers {Review & Giveaway}

Introduction: HeidiOh Diapers are handmade by Heidi--cloth diapering mama to two. Heidi began by sewing cloth diapers for her own children, fell in love with the process and decided to sell her creations. Heidi is licensed to sew and sell La Di Da Sized Fitted Diapers and Sprout Snap One-Size Pocket Diapers.

Selection: Heidi offers Custom Fitted Diapers in sizes Newborn, Small, Medium, Medium-Long, Large and One-Size, Custom Pocket Diapers in sizes Medium, Medium-Long, Large and One-Size and Bamboo Fleece Diaper Inserts.

Review: Heidi sent us a One-Size Pocket diaper with a Turtles and Friends PUL outer. There are several things I like about this diaper.

First, I love the style and fit. This diaper is a trim fit for both Jonathan (2 yrs, 25 lbs.) and Eliya (8 mo, 18 lbs.). I also like that the elastic in the legs is completely encased so the fleece doesn't roll to the outside. The welt style pocket also keep the inserts in the diaper and not creeping up in the back. The fun colored snaps are an added bonus.

Second, I love the fabrics. The outer PUL is soft and adorable. It also works well for both genders which is important in our home. The inner fleece is very soft and is dark green. I love non-white innards. They appeal to my "I hate to see stains on cloth diapers" side. This diaper is definitely a Finer Thing.

Connect: Visit HeidiOh Diapers on Facebook.

Buy It: You can purchase a Pocket Diaper from HeidiOh Diapers for $15-$23 or a Fitted Diaper for $13-$20.

Win It: One of our readers is going to win their very own custom HeidiOh Diaper! Heidi has graciously offered a custom fitted or pocket diaper to the winner of this giveaway. The winner will be able to choose the type of diaper, size and colors of their diaper.

To Enter This Giveaway:

Mandatory
1. Visit the HeidiOh Diapers shop, then come back and tell us what diaper you'd like Heidi to make just for you if you win. Choose fitted or pocket and what size you would like. (The winner will be able to choose the fabric for their diaper as well.)

Make sure you leave an email address with each entry if it is not posted in your profile. (If we don't have your email address we will have to choose a new winner.)

Bag It Conscious {Review & Discount Code}

Our family usually eats dinner on the go at least once a week when we venture out for an evening of family fun. Since our children still go to bed early, we leave right after they wake up from their naps and simply pack a dinner or snacks to eat throughout the evening.

A great way to go green when packing food to eat away from home is to use reusable cloth sandwich and snack bags. These bags are a great alternative to plastic zip top baggies that end up in the landfill or have to be recycled.

I also love all the fabric choices there are for these bags. It definitely makes packing and eating snacks on the road prettier and more fun.

Today I get to introduce you to Lizzy and her Etsy shop, Bag It Conscious. Lizzy makes and sells handmade reusable sandwich and snack bags, lunch bags, totes, market bags, etc. Everything to replace, or at least reduce the use of plastic. She believes, and we definitely agree, that every little change we make in our lives towards helping the environment, goes a very long way and that teaching our kids alternatives is the best way to make a lasting difference.

We had the opportunity to review a Sandwich Sized Reusable Bag from Bag It Conscious. I chose this adorable apple print called Take a Bite for our bag and it arrived in just a few days. When I opened the package, our bag was carefully wrapped in colorful tissue paper and would have been perfect for gift giving.

The Reusable Sandwich and Snack Bags are made of 100% cotton fabrics and lined with nylon waterproof and food-safe ripstop material. They also have no exposed seems, which I love. I also love the bright orange nylon that Lizzy used in this bag. (Note: this is a photo of the bag turned inside out)

The top of these bags close with Velcro. The sandwich bags measure a generous 6.5" x 6.5".

What I like best about these bags is that to clean them you can simply turn them inside out and shake them out or wipe them with a damp cloth. Then, when they get really dirty you can throw them in the wash. (Wash cold, line dry recommended.)

Buy It! Reusable Sandwich Bags from Bag It Conscious sell for $7 each and Snack Bags are $6.50. Sandwich and Snack Bag Sets are $13.25. That's not bad when you take into consideration that this bag will probably last at least a couple of years.

We've now used this bag on several occasions and love it. The velcro is strong enough to stay together even if shoved into the diaper bag but not so strong that the kid's can't open it. The sewing is also very neat and consistent and definitely looks like it will last for a long time.

Would you like to get your own Reusable Sandwich or Snack Bag from Bag It Conscious? I know you would!

Special Offer: For one week only, Lizzy is offering all of you 10% off of sandwich, snack and lunch bags! So through next Monday, November 8th you can get a 10% discount on any sandwich, snack or lunch bag. (This discount does not apply to shipping or the "mix and match" options which are already discounted.)

Simply tell Lizzy in the message to seller box that you saw this review on A Heart for Home and she will reimburse 10% of your sandwich, snack and lunch bag total to your Paypal account.

Here are some of our favorite bags from Bag It Conscious. Click on any of the photos to browse through Lizzy's entire shop.

Review & Giveaway :: Wee Ones by JaJoC {closed}

In preparing for Eliya's birth, we discovered that we really didn't have enough small AIO diapers since Jonathan was in disposable diapers until he was at least a month old. We started looking for some more AIOs, but we didn't much like the idea of having newborn or small sized diapers that our babies would outgrow by the time they were only a few weeks or months old. Then we stumbled upon Crystal's Etsy shop Wee Ones by JaJoC. Crystal has developed a One Size AIO Diaper that really caught our attention.

Here's what she has to say about it:

After much trial and error I've made a One Size AIO that doesn't leak! Made with organic materials and PUL this diaper is designed to keep your wee one in the same diaper from birth to the Potty (roughly 8-30 lbs).

Made with an exterior of PUL, and Bamboo inside ALL is designed to be a trim fitting yet absorbent diaper.

You can customize it with more absorbency if you'd like and it comes with our new One Size Trifold which is trim, absorbent and best of all One Size!

When Crystal agreed to send us one of these One-Size AIO diapers we were very excited. I have to admit that we were also a little skeptical that it would truly work for such a large range of sizes.

When the diaper arrived I pre-washed it and then proceeded to try it on all three of our children. As a reference, Emahry will be 3 in 2 months and weighs 32 pounds, Jonathan is almost 18 months old and weighs 21 pounds, and Eliya is five weeks old and weighs approximately 7 1/2 pounds.

Emahry is probably at the tip of the size range for this diaper, but thankfully she doesn't need to be in diapers much any more. We actually put her in this diaper for a few nights to see if it would be absorbent enough for a nighttime accident, but each morning she was completely dry :)

Jonathan is the perfect size for this diaper. He is right in between the change in rise and can actually wear the diaper at either height. This diaper has been very absorbent with him. He has worn it on several outings where it has been left on for about 4 hours and we have had absolutely no trouble with leaking.

Eliya is just growing into this diaper as she is not quite 8 pounds yet. However, I think most babies would fit in this diaper a little earlier, we just tend to have small babies. Considering the fact that she is not to the weight specifications yet, this diaper has worked well for Eliya also. She wore it at home yesterday for 3 hours and we didn't experience any major leaks. There was a tiny bit of dampness on her gown, but I blame that on her skinny little legs and not the diaper :)

Overall, we are very impressed with this diaper. I would love to fill our stash with these diapers. The Wee Ones One-Size AIO Daipers are priced at $26.95 each, which is a good deal when you consider that they will most likely fit for the entire time your child is in diapers.

Here are some more of our favorite things from Wee Ones by JaJoC's Etsy Shop. Simply click on each picture to view the listing or browse through the entire shop or website.

Buy It: You can purchase your own cloth diapers, baby wraps/slings, items for moms, leather baby shoes/boots, and much more by visiting the Wee Ones by JaJoC's website or Etsy shop. If you make a purchase, please let them know that you found out about the shop at A Heart For Home.

Win It: Wee Ones by JaJoC sent us two of these wonderful diapers, one for us to review, and one for us to pass on to one of our readers. This is the same type of diaper, the One-Size ALL Zorbeez AIO, that we reviewed. Here is a photo of the exact diaper the winner will receive.

Lefty Loops Review & Giveaway {closed}

I recently discovered Lefty Loops when we won a Custom Cupcake Hat from a giveaway at Wee Share. Tara, is the creative mama behind the Etsy shop Lefty Loops. She is the full-time mom to one little boy and a part-time speech-language pathologist. She began her business of selling adorable crocheted hats on Etsy so that she wouldn't have to go back to work full-time. What a great motivation!

When I found out that we had won a Bake your Own Cupcake Hat, I was very excited. I knew it would be perfect for Emahry, even though she has never eaten an entire cupcake in her life, the hat seems to fit her personality. Emahry loved choosing the flavors for her hat.

We both anticipated its arrival and were very excited when the package showed up at the post office. Every time Emahry wears her cupcake hat it gets noticed. The unique design makes this a perfect addition to any little girl's cool weather wardrobe.

Since we love Emahry's hat so much, I was thrilled when Tara asked if we would like to review a new hat design that she was adding to her shop. We waited again with anticipation until another package arrived.

Tara sent us this adorable Bunny Hat and Carrot Rattle for Eliya. She wore it on our walk home from the post office and it has already received many compliments.

This precious hat is made from white yarn and has a small flower that can be customized with a choice of four colors. The combination of this bunny hat and carrot rattle would make a wonderful Easter gift for a baby or toddler in your life.

We are very pleased with both of these hats. The stitching is very uniform and the overall design and quality is very good. We will definitely recommend Lefty Loops to all of the people who stop and ask where we got these adorable hats! These hats are truely finer things.

Here are some more of our favorite things from Lefty Loops. Simply click on each picture to view the listing or browse through the entire shop.

Buy It:
You can purchase your own adorable crocheted hats from Tara by visiting Lefty Loops. If you make a purchase, please let Tara know that you found out about the shop at A Heart For Home. Also be sure to visit her blog.
